Membership Manager Travis Tyson

Travis was born in 1973 and raised in Nampa, Idaho.  He graduated from Vallivue High School and attended Boise State University.  He spent 12 years in the structural packaging design and testing field and in 2006 began working for the City of Nampa in the Engineering Division primarily doing AutoCAD Civil design and review and GIS Mapping and Addressing.  Travis' favorite things to do (besides ATV-ing, of course) include movies, music, hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with his wife Kristen and son Trace.  He is also fascinated with all things PIRATES!  You'll find him on the ATV discussion forums as 'The Pirate'.

Travis supports and enjoys community service opportunities and spends a good amount of his time volunteering and participating in many capacities; he has been the President of his Homeowners Association since 2005, Graduated from the Nampa Citizens Police Academy in 2005 and has been a member of the Nampa Citizens Patrol Team since that time.  He has supported the Local Community Theatre groups; Music Theatre of Idaho and Encore Threatre Company doing set design and construction, back stage help and acting.  He is also a member of the National Rifle Association, BlueRibbion Coalition, and St. Luke's Air Ambulance service, Air St. Luke's.

Travis bought his first ATV in 2005 and as many of the stories, we all hear too often, it sat in the garage for the better part of 3 years because he didn't know where to ride safely or legally and didn't really have anyone to ride with.  In 2007, he began riding with his good friend Scott who rode a dirt bike and together they covered just about every trail in the Hemmingway Butte and Rabbit Creek OHV Trailheads in the Owyhee Front.

In October of that same year, he had an ATV accident in the same Rabbit Creek area, which was really more of a wrestling match between the ATV and himself.  When the dust settled, he was on his back   underneath the ATV, which luckily was now sitting on its tires.  He was able to push free from the machine and after a quick review of his injuries and a prayer to God, he got back on the machine to catch up to his friend Scott while there was lots of adrenaline still in him!  Scott left his dirt bike and drove Travis' ATV (with him on the back) to a paved road where Melba and Marsing EMT's met them.  Due to briefly passing out on them twice while the EMT's worked to find injuries, they called for Air St. Luke's and Travis got his very first helicopter ride; to the St. Al's Trauma Center in Boise.  Note: Travis was wearing a helmet (and always will) and acknowledges that due to landing first on his head it most definitely saved his life and encourages everyone to ALWAYS WEAR A HELMET!  The accident resulted in a broken sternum, 2 broken ribs, a broken ankle, and 6 weeks of bed rest at home.  During the 6 weeks of healing at home, Travis fell deeper in love with his then fiancé, Kristen who took such devoted, loving care of him and he quickly sped up their "sometime next year" wedding plans and married a short 5 weeks later on New Years Eve.

Travis joined the Canyon County ATV Club in November of 2008, became their Treasurer for 2009, and is currently the Vice President for 2010.  He is ready and looking forward to assuming the Presidency in 2011 and he hopes to be influential in growing the number of memberships and sponsors for the club and expanding their trail maintenance programs and possibly other community involvement opportunities.

In 2009, Travis created a facebook page for the ISATVA as an alternative method of increasing club activity awareness, communication and as a recruitment tool.  Facebook users who belong to the group can upload photos, videos and comment on various portions of the group's web content.  Over a year later, 75 facebook users have joined our group and its growing!

As the ISATVA Membership Manager, Travis is responsible for maintaining current and correct contact information for all of the organizations and individuals who belong to the state association.  He is very excited to be a part of the brand new ISATVA and is committed to helping them grow and be successful in ATV safety, rider education, fighting to keeps trails open and enjoying the beauty of Idaho!
